Happy Hawaiian Statehood Day

Hawaii’s state flag
Today is Hawaii
Statehood Day! The third Friday in August is Statehood Day in Hawaii (formerly
called Admission Day). It was on August 21, 1959, that Hawaii became the 50th
state in the Union. It is a paid state holiday for government employees.
Statehood in Hawaii is a controversial thing with many believing that Hawaii was illegally annexed to the United States in the late 1800s. If you enjoy history – I encourage you to read up on Hawaiian history.
