Blog: A taste of what you may find on Maui

Upcountry Farmers Market

I accidentally found a large Saturday morning farmer’s market at Kulamalu this weekend. You know when you are driving upcountry on the Kula Hwy past King Kekaulike highschool? On the right you will see a new-ish Long’s Drugstore with the Kulamalu community right next to it. This farmer’s market takes place behind Long’s near the football field.

I pulled into Kulamalu to look something up on my phone, only to find… no street parking! What? Curious, I drove around and came across the Upcountry Farmer’s Market. I did find a parking spot and wandered around, admiring the different stands. The first thing I noticed was, I felt like a really straight-laced city slicker. There were a lot of hippies (is it politically correct to say that? I mean no offense!!) at this farmer’s market selling quite the variety of organic, gluten-free, vegan, ‘mystic’ etc food. I also found kombucha, baking, ‘conventionally grown’ (non-organic) veggies, honey, fresh fish, jewelry, flowers, plants, massage etc. There were at least 50 vendors (if not more).

So if you’re upcountry on a Saturday morning, check it out between 7-11am.

Here’s a video clip I found on youtube about this farmer’s market.
