Blog: A taste of what you may find on Maui

Lunch at the Maui Culinary Academy

Do you enjoy good food? We have a special treat here on Maui – the Maui Culinary Academy serves lunch Wednesdays and Fridays (during school session).

In December 2013 Leis Family Class Act Restaurant was named a winner of the OpenTable 2013 Diner’s Choice Top 100 Best Restaurants in America. These ratings are based on verified diner reviews of 19,000 restaurants.

It is a student-run fine dining room at the University of Hawaii Maui campus in Kahului. Students enrolled in the UHMaui culinary program are your chefs and servers, under the supervision of their instructors (yes, these are students, so be patient). They serve a prix-fixe 4 course dinner ($32-$37 range depending on choice of entree) Wednesdays and Fridays with seatings between 11am and 12:30pm. Bring your own bottle of wine if you wish. Do make reservations early as they can sell out.

Our friends are big fans, and today they treated us to ‘lunch’ (dinner served at lunch, that is). Our meal was absolutely wonderful. Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy!

This was Sig’s entree – pinenut crusted ehu (yellow snapper), potato gnochi and roast vegetables.

Hazelnut meringue, fresh berries, marsala zabaglione & strawberry balsamic sorbetto. It was delicious.

The Class Act dining room is on the second story of the UH Maui cafeteria building.
