Blog: A taste of what you may find on Maui

Bathroom signs

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who finds this amusing…. here are the airport bathroom signs at Honolulu International Airport (HNL) – incidentally, we have the same ones at Kahului Airport (OGG) on Maui. As a side – for some reason the majority of airlines don’t list Kahului (OGG) when selecting your destination – but rather say Maui (OGG). There are actually three airports on Maui, Kahului (OGG) being the main one that you need to fly into, and then two very small commuter airports in Kapalua and Hana. You need to choose Kahului/Maui (OGG) for your mainland/international flights.

Yes, the woman (wahine in Hawai’ian) is wearing a mu’u mu’u (loose Hawai’ian dress) with a lei and hibiscus behind her left ear (a signal she is married or otherwise unavailable). If you want it known that you are single or available, wear a flower behind your right ear.

The man (kane in Hawai’ian) is wearing a ‘lovely’ Hawai’ian shirt. Personally I prefer subdued Hawai’ian shirts and a little longer than the one this guy is wearing, but maybe that’s just me….
